Blackle: Energy-Saving Customised Google Search
| Advertisements | |
We are so much addicted to Google that we think twice before searching with any other search engine. Now when I will tell u that Google will help you save energy and cut down your electricity bills, there is nothing better than that.

Blackle is a customised Google search which shows the same search results as that of Google but the only advantage is that, it helps you save energy.
According to a research, Images displayed on the monitor screen are primarily a function of the user’s color settings and desktop graphics, as well as the color and size of open application windows; a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen. So, the Blackle search has a screen which is predominantly black. So it helps save power.
Blackle has saved about 729,325.949 Watt hours of energy till date.
“Blackle.com – Saving energy one search at a time”, is the Tag line of this Website. We encourage you to set Blackle as your home page. Help us save power. Remember every bit counts!

I think this is really cool! (it doesn’t look that pretty though). It’s a great way to save energy, which prople aren’t doing enough of these days. Energy saving light bulds save £9 per year each… I wonder how much blackie can save on electricicy bills – say for a whole company if they all used it?!

I’m using Blaxel.com instead (which is just another Black Google) because the text on the result page is more brighter than Blackle, so is much more easier on my eye. Should care for our eye too while saving energy!

hey lisely!! Blaxel.com which you use is similar to Blackle.com but Blaxel is mostly optimized for getting revenue from Google Adsense( With ads)…Blackle appears to be exactly similar to normal Google with Black background….

There are around 22 different versions of “black google” online. The best one I’ve found is http://www.cleanblack.com. Cleanblack is the only version that allows you to change the text colors of the google search results. Try it yourself by going to http://www.cleanblack.com/theme/

Both of these show that Blackle actually uses more energy than Google.

The links you provided dont prove that Blackle is evil for the Environment. But it proves that someone is profiting from it. Why should we care if someone profits or not? We should look to save energy and look at our profit which will lead to lower electricity bills.

What the guy on that link: http://www.5min.com/Video/Blackle—Does-it-Really-Save-Energy-57207861
mentioned is correct. Maybe things might have changed again at least a bit. Since the latest LCD monitors decrease the light when the whole screen is shown with more dark content than shiny. I don’t know if that works for plasma displays, too, but at least you may call those black ‘googles’ as energy saver when you work with CRTs and modern LCDs.

Blackl’s old website, blackle has quite a bad search function which stacks ads at top and bottom of page. It also uses dirty energy as compared to the renewable energy which is now being used.
Since they created Blackl ( http://www.blackl.com ) search is a lot more friendly having a real Google feel. Their current Black Google, Blackl will also appeal to more people. Even if they use LCD’s they can now be sure they are using 100% clean energy.
