On 17th December 2010, Sony launched one of its Portable Professional Digital Production camera from the CineAlta range. CineAlta range has always been looked up by professional Cameramen and this was no exception. The quality of video delivered by this camera is just phenomenal!
We had Mr. Santosh Sivan, acclaimed Cinematographer, Director and winner of 12 National awards and 21 International awards along with his award winning team of Ms. Anjuli Shukla and Mr. Alphonse Roy to provide a preview of the short film that they have created using the PMW-F3. (They were allowed to Review the camera before its launch in India.) They used it for shooting a short Film in Chennai. Every one was amazed to see the Clarity of the Camera without any Computerized editing.
Getting into the Specifics, its Super 35mm CMOS imager delivers shallow depth of field, with high sensitivity and low noise levels along with a wide dynamic range.
It offers a wide variety of recording resolutions including 1920×1080, 1440×1080, and 1280×720 at 23.98/25/29.97p, 50/59.94i and, 25/29.97PsF and 50/59.94i in DVCAM mode. Users can take advantage of “slow” and “quick” recording, from 1 to 30 fps at 1920×1080 (17 to 30 fps in dual-link mode) and 1 to 60 fps at 1280×720 (17 to 60 fps in dual-link mode).

This Camera is aimed at independent as well as established filmmakers. It is priced(including TAX) at Rs. 1,230,000 for the PMW-F3L (without lens) and Rs. 1,710,000 for the PMW-F3K (with PL Lens kit). The price includes two SxS media cards, two battery packs and a charger. The PMW-F3 will be available in India in February 2011 at Authorized Sony outlets.
