The Idea Ivory comes in two colour options namely White and Black. The major difference is the glossy finish on the white colour body, whereas a paint finish on the black colour body. This results in the black piece staying up as a finger print magnet and the white colour doesn’t leave any fingerprint marks on its body. The other notable aspect was that the white model was slippery and difficult to grip as compared to its black counterpart.
Existent on the front panel are three capacitive keys along with one clickable button present underneath these buttons. This however doesn’t vouch to be the Home button. Upon closer analysis, no sharp edges, curved corners were found resident with the phone’s design. The location of the volume setting keys are on the right side and the power button is on the top of the phone.
Idea’s basic intention was to play an active role in the market in respect to its devices. Also, the task was to create a budget affordable Smartphone to reach out to its consumers and availing the beneficial aspect of using Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The Smartphone has a 3.5 inch capacitive touchscreen with 320 x 480 pixel dimensions with DPI of 159 x 160. Thus, this can result in the downfall of the phone, but the screen dint look as worse as expected.
The 1 GHz CPU and 512 MB RAM are overall good enough for the system, but its real processor performance will only be tested once the device is heavily populated with around 60-70 apps. The constructed hardware is of decent standards to function Android 4.0 ICS resident on the phone smoothly, however minimal stutters were observed during multitasking operations. It is a point to be noted that whether Idea Ivory will materialize the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update or not. Upon closer observation, it was noted that the Idea Ivory has respectable graphics strength to run modern addictive games such as Temple Run. However, Agent Dash was found to not work on the handset.
There is a facilitation of certain pre-loaded apps resident on the device. These include apps such the Ideal Mall, Idea TV and cloud back up which serve fruitful for the user. The phone is priced in the affordable price range category and is available mobile outlets in India priced at Rs 7,390. Thus, this Smartphone falls in the category of people who want to utilize the phone’s specifications as well try out the Android 4.0 under the price range Rs 10,000.
To sum it all, Idea Ivory is an ambitious attempt by Idea to play an active role in the market in the range of affordable Smartphones. The main focus of being consumer driven, technology driven aspect serves them in good stead with the pricing. However, comparing it with the other devices that are available at this price range; the current pricing of Idea Ivory seems a little expensive as compared to the screen size it provides. Running Quadrant Standard on the specific device it was brought to conclusion that the device was resident between the HTC Desire HD and Samsung Nexus S Quadrant values. The Quadrant score was valued to be 1760. Even after providing the user with several other benefits along with the devices, the pricing appears to be slightly on the farther expensive side when compared with the current Micromax and Lava devices available in the market.
