Previously we have seen a plethora of rumors, leaks, and teasers surrounding the development of an X Phone and now the Moto X has been officially unveiled!
After months in hibernation, Motorola has officially launched its well-anticipated Moto X. This is the first phone released after the company was acquired by Google. The Moto X has taken a different direction in comparison to the already available phones in the market by handing out the design control to the consumer rather than the manufacturer.
Originally, the Moto X will be available in two basic colors which are black and white, but the buyers will possess the option of customizing the phone because of the availability of variety of patterns and engravings at the Motorola’s Texas Factory. A huge part of the customization feature is due to the fact it is “Made in America”. Motorola has also given away with the sharp edges which were seen on its old models and have replaced these with a more soft rounded comfortable grip. The device features a 4.7-inch screen which is relatively smaller than all other phones which are available in the same price range. But Motorola claims that this screen size is apt to use as well as handy to carry around.
The Moto X has a 10 megapixel camera along-with LED flash. Based on claims by Motorola, it is reported that the camera can capture more light than the other smartphone, which thereby gives it better functionality while low light imaging. One of the most unique feature is the “Quick Capture” feature where-in an image will be taken from pocket to capture within three seconds. The camera App can be activated simply by just tilting the phone twice in a horizontally fashion, which therefore helps in saving time. The camera also uses its own auto focus technology and will click the image if pressed anywhere on the screen.
The “Touchless Control” feature arrives as a direct competitor to Siri, which is available on the iPhone. The commands such as “OK Google Now” help to unlock the phone and various other features such as search, finding direction, checking weather, playing music can be used with the appropriate voice commands. Additionally, it is a point to be noted that Google now doesn’t require any network to operate on. Based on claims made by the company, it is highlighted that the phone has the ability to learn your voice; which thereby ends up giving more privacy to the user.
The device joins the list of other handful devices to use the nano SIM card format. The Moto X is powered by X8 Mobile Computing system which is regarded to have 8 distinct processing cores. It is basically a Snapdragon S4 Pro chip that constitutes two Krait cores that are clocked at 1.7 GHz each. The Moto X surprisingly comes with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean rather than the upgraded version of Android 4.3 that is available.
The Moto X is priced at $199 which is on par with the HTC one or the Samsung S4 for example, hence it remains to be seen as to how the new Moto X can compete with its rival competitors such as the Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy series of devices.
