“Jammu & Kashmir” and “Arunachal Pradesh” are NOT a part of India (according to Google)

We had already talked about the delay in Apple products coming to India and not it seems that Google is having the same problem.

I came across this issue when I was trying to check my Google Analytics Dashboard for the traffic I am getting through India. When the India’s Map overlay page was opened, I was shocked to see that two of the Indian States were marked “grey” and none of the visitors from those stares were shown on the Map.

I wondered what may be wrong, but later realized the conflicts with China and Pakistan may be a cause for this. [China wants Arunachal Pradesh as its territory while its no secret that Pakistan is wanting Kashmir for a long time]

But, the major shock came when I was checking the traffic from Pakistan. The “Jammu and Kashmir” state was not even included in its territory. Same is the case with China!

It appears that Google does not want to get into the internal politics between these countries and trying a safe approach by marking this territories as redundant (in grey texture). Looking forward to hearing your take on this situation!!

Firefox 4 Review: Benchmarks and Usage Feel

The newest version of the Mozilla web browser, Firefox 4, went through a long developing stage, the first beta being available since January 2010. Meanwhile, the expectations from the users of the old Firefox 3.6 grew higher and higher as specially because the other developers have been very productive and the alternatives are tempting.

Thankfully, the wait is over! Firefox 4 has lived up to all expectations. The Interface of the old Firefox 3 has been upgraded to a new and much more optimized one. Behind the flashy interface, we have a completely new browser, the source code has been all but rewritten and it has many optimizations for speed and support for the newest technologies.

The tests show that the browser has a very high compatibility. Taking the Acid 3 test, which is one of the most powerful tools for evaluating the compatibility for web browsers, Firefox 4 does not disappoint, scoring a impressive 97/100 points and is rated higher than Internet Explorer 9 with 95/100 and is at a tie with the newest Opera 11.1. Although it didn’t score as much as Google Chrome, who is the undisputed leader with 100/100 points!

Speed

Using Sunspider JavaScript Benchmark 0.9.1, who can test very precise the speed of a web-browser. During the tests, we opened more than one tab in every browser.

As you can see, the benchmarks placed Firefox 4 almost at the bottom of the list. We can definitely say that Firefox 4 needs some optimizations if they want to compete with the other web-browsers.

In tests, the speed of the browser is quite good and it behaved just as expected and we did not notice loss of speed when comparing with the other browsers. This being said, we can say that in normal user usage, you will not be able to notice any loss of speed.

Thus, it is still your very own speedy browser for normal usage..

Airtel 3G Data Tariff plans in Mumbai

India’s leading telecommunications company, Bharti Airtel on Tuesday 8th March 2011, launched its 3G services in Mumbai. This will enable all the present and future Airtel subscribers in the Mumbai Circle to Activate and use 3G services at their own convenience.

At the launch event, Atul Bindal, President – Mobile Services, Bharti Airtel said, “Mumbai is the commercial and entertainment capital of India – and therefore at the leading edge of driving a paradigm shift from voice to data services. With the highest data penetration in India of over 20%, the city of Mumbai truly represents the data revolution story that our country is currently witnessing. As we bring the power of 3G to Mumbai today, we are
confident that this launch will add impetus to the expansion of data services in India.”

He specifically added, “For delivering robust 3G experience for customers, Airtel has made significant network investments in Mumbai.”

Already launched in the cities of Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Mysore, Manipal, Udipi, Jaipur and Delhi NCR, Airtel will launch its 3G services in all 13 3G-license circles by March 2011 and in 1000 major towns in India by March 2012.

Technology has always played the role of a disruptive force that has changed business models, ecosystems, or even the world order. This is evident all through out history right from the stone-age to the current age of convergence/mobility. It’s time for businesses to redefine their business models and business leaders to revisit their IT strategy to better reflect the changing role of the technology deployment”, said Pradeep Udhas, Head of IT / ITeS Sector, KPMG in India.

One of the focus areas of the report was the Cloud’s impact on the industry sectors- Government, Healthcare, and Education. Troubleshooting Your Internet Connection (Check These Things Before Calling Anyone)
