LINE hits 10 million users in 3 months in India

LINE Corporation, owner of LINE app, a free calling and messaging app recently announced that the app has just touched the mark of 10 million users in India. Though the company is proud of this achievement it aspires towards greater glory and aims to become India’s top smartphone app in the next few years. It has already started undertaking new marketing schemes to achieve their target. The company has also bought in Katrina Kaif as their brand ambassador and will be launching their new TV advert on October 11 to coincide with the auspicious festival of Diwali. The company will also be releasing a range of India exclusive stickers of Katrina Kaif.

Speaking about their upcoming projects Akira Morikawa, C.E.O. of LINE Corporation said “Since launching LINE in July of 2013, the number of users in India has skyrocketed to an astounding 10 million, far exceeding our expectations. We haven’t experienced such rapid growth in any other countries to date and with the help of our marketing partnership with Katrina Kaif, along with other partnerships with entities in India, we are confident that we can easily surpass 20 million users by the end of the year.”


Besides the induction of a new brand ambassador they have also added a few new partnerships like

  • Sony India will have pre-installed LINE app on their smartphones like the Z1 and Xperia C as well as launch a co operative marketing campaign
  • Sony Music Entertainment is opening official accounts with LINE which will cater to fans of major genres of music including Bollywood, Indipop, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi and International music
  • LINE has also partnered with major Bollywood films like ‘Krrish 3’ and ’Dhoom 3’ to give viewing audience exposure to the app

In terms of numbers, from the day of official launch in the market, voice calls have witnessed 3,200 % growth and 1,800% usage increase has been attributed to stickers. Additionally, messages have touched an exciting 700% increase since June 2013.

All the partnerships undertaken by LINE have been done to provide a more outreach with its customers and stake its claim in being one of its leading apps in India.
